How Do I Get There?

Airlines -- Expedia is the best search engine for airline tickets. It is thorough, quick, easy and I always find the cheapest tickets here.

  • Orbitz.com is comparable to Expedia. Remember that neither carries Southwest and other budget airlines so always check those sites as well to get the best deal.
  • No Frills online airline discounter that professes to offer the "cheapest" tickets anywhere.
  • Websites of Individual Airlines - sometimes you can find a last-minute bargain on an airlines' website. Click here for links to all the major airlines

Where do I Stay?

Hotels/Hostels

  • Best Small Luxury Hotels of the World - Search for information on small, luxurious resorts and hotels.
  • HotelGuide.com - An international directory of hotels worldwide.  You can research hotels in various price ranges and make researvations for hotels worldwide.  They tend to focus on the big chain hotels, however, which is not our favorite. We prefer the smaller, more quaint places.
  • Hostelling International - Here is a comprehensive list of hostels with travel information and other resources run by the American Youth Hostel Association.
  • Hostel.com - A cite with various information about hostelling and where to stay.

Bed & Breakfasts:

  • Bedandbreakfast.com allows you to search for B&B's all over the world.  They have pictures and statistics on your choices.  It is a great resource.
  • BBOnline.com is another B&B finder.  It is helpful as well, and in some cities contains establishments that the other B&B site does not.
  • America's Inns & Lodges

How Do I Get Around?

  • The Eurorail - The easiest and fastest way to get around Europe.  There are student passes and a whole host of other options such as discounts for two or more traveling together.  If you are planning on being in Europe for any appreciable amount of time, this is a must.
  • Another Eurorail site - The price of a eurorail pass is regulated.  Thus, there is no ned to shop around for these.  I would recommend purchasing insurance on it, though which you may want to shop around for.

What Do I Do There?

  • The best way to answer this question is research.  I generally do not book a hotel or decide conclusively about a destination until I find out what there is to do there.
  • The general travel sites listed above have information on "don't miss" sights and activities.  But in the end it is vacation, so even if you just sit around, you will have a great time.

Prudent things to Do Before And After Your Trip

  • International Society of Travel Medicine - It is vital to stay healthy when traveling.  It is a good idea to do research and/or visit a specialist in travel medicine should you be visitng anywhere in the Third World.
  • Centers for Disease Control - The CDC maintains a website with possible health threats in specific domestic and foreign destinations.  Find out about all health issue before you go and talk to your physician.
  • US Department of State - The State Department maintains background information as well as information on current political conditions in all countries.  In addition, here, you can get information on visas, etc.
